Anyango is a fourteen-year-old orphan child whose parents died when she was a young child. She went to live with her grandmother. When she became pregnant after a sexual assault, her grandmother wanted nothing more to do with her. She went to the village midwife when she was ready to give birth. Following tradition, the baby was to be left to die, being considered taboo. However, Sarah had also attended the birth with the midwife and offered to care for the baby. Sarah asked what could be done for Anyango, she replied, “I just want to go to school.” Anyango now attends boarding school and recently, has began to accept Kayla as her daughter and is forming a loving relationship with her.
